Unlisted Video Finder: Complete Overview

Understand the scanner's inputs, public-playlist results, credits, and coverage limits before starting your research.

How the Scanner Works

PromoFinder checks public playlist data through the YouTube API. It does not guess IDs or access private videos.

  1. Step 1 Channel resolution. A channel URL, @handle, or channel ID is resolved to a channel.
  2. Step 2 Playlist enumeration. Available public playlists are retrieved within the scanner's coverage and safety limits.
  3. Step 3 Video entry inspection. For each playlist, the playlistItems.list endpoint returns every video entry with its status.privacyStatus field. Entries returning unlisted are collected.
  4. Step 4 Result assembly. Collected unlisted entries are deduplicated (a video may appear in multiple playlists) and returned with their video ID, title, thumbnail URL, and the full watch link.

Accepted Input Formats

The tool accepts three forms of channel identifier. All are equivalent — use whichever you have available:

Channel URL

A channel URL, for example: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

@handle URL or bare handle

The @username format used since 2022: https://www.youtube.com/@CreatorName or just @CreatorName

Bare channel ID

The raw ID string starting with UC: UCxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (24 characters)

Use a channel identifier, not a keyword, video watch URL, or playlist URL. If you only have a video link, open its uploader's channel and copy that channel URL.

What You Get in Results

For each discoverable unlisted video, the results panel shows:

  • ·Video title — as it appears on YouTube
  • ·Thumbnail — the default YouTube thumbnail for the video
  • ·Watch link — a direct youtube.com/watch?v=ID URL
  • ·Playlist source — which public playlist the video was found in

The Free Research Preview and Credits

One free research preview per browser and network is shared across paid research tools. Using it on another tool may consume that preview.

Additional fresh scans require credits. Check current packs and tool costs on the credits page. Cached results may be reused; paying does not guarantee complete coverage or a new upstream request.

Coverage and Limitations

Understanding what the scanner can and cannot surface helps set accurate expectations:

Can find

  • Unlisted videos that the creator has added to any public playlist
  • Unlisted entries that remain accessible in the public playlists returned by a scan
  • Videos whose status changed from public to unlisted after being added to a public playlist

Cannot find

  • Unlisted videos that exist only in private playlists or in no playlist at all
  • Private videos (access denied by YouTube regardless of playlist membership)
  • Deleted videos (no longer in the YouTube API)
  • Videos on channels with zero public playlists
  • Any video that YouTube's API does not expose to an unauthorized caller

Result Freshness

Results may be cached. For ongoing research, note when you scanned and review changes periodically; new scans cannot guarantee complete coverage.

The free preview may serve a recent cached result (typically from within the last 24 hours) for popular channels. Credits always trigger a live API pull for the most current data.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does the PromoFinder unlisted video finder do?

It takes a channel URL, @handle, or ID, checks available public playlist entries within scan limits, and returns matching unlisted videos with titles and watch links.

How many free scans do I get?

Each browser and network combination receives one free research preview. This single preview is shared across all PromoFinder research tools — the unlisted scanner, the promo finder, domain search, and others. After the preview is used, fresh scans require credits.

What are PromoFinder credits?

Credits pay for additional fresh research scans. Check the credits page for current pack prices and tool costs before purchasing.

Can the tool find private YouTube videos?

No. Private videos are not accessible through the YouTube Data API to unauthorized callers. The tool only surfaces unlisted videos that appear in public playlists — private videos remain inaccessible regardless of the method used.

How fresh are the scan results?

Results may come from a recent cache or a new API scan. Playlist changes, unavailable data, and scan limits can affect coverage; credits do not guarantee a new upstream request.
